Located in the historic Sandal Magna area of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, The Castle is a stylish pub, bar, and restaurant, that’s perfectly equipped to allow you to relax, drink, and dine in unique surroundings.

When it comes to our menus, we’ve got everything covered. From tempting snacks, starters, and sharers, through to much-loved traditional dishes, our expertly crafted menus are sure to satisfy your appetite.

Expertly prepared using the finest ingredients, whether you opt for our portobello mushrooms, handmade British beef burger, roasted pork belly and seared scallops, sticky toffee pudding, or British cheese board, we’re confident you’ll be impressed. 

With real wood burning fires and stylish furnishings, The Castle is also a great space to warm up on freezing cold winter days, with a warming treat and hot drink.

Other convenient amenities include free off-road car parking, baby changing facilities, and wheelchair access.

The Castle is easily accessible on foot, by road, or on public transport.  If you’re travelling by train, the closest station is Sandal & Agbrigg station. Alternatively, you can reach us from the Wakefield bus station.

Keeping Busy in Wakefield

The Castle is conveniently located in the historic area of Sandal Magna, in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

This ancient settlement offers a whole host of historic attractions, including the site of Sandal Castle and a parish church that predates the Domesday Book. The Battle of Wakefield was also fought here during the War of the Roses in the 15th century. And, once you’ve finished soaking up all the history that Sandal has to offer, why not call into The Castle for a well-earned pint or a delicious lunch to refuel?

If history isn’t your thing, Wakefield itself has a whole host of attractions and activities on offer, including the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield CathedralTrinity Walk shopping centre, and The Hepworth art gallery – so explore, enjoy, and then pop into The Castle to rest and reflect on your day.

With plenty of glorious landscape and rolling countryside close by, The Castle is also ideally placed for walkers exploring The Wakefield Way or the Pennines.
